5 Star National Geographic Exhibit at the Annenberg in LA

I have just returned from the Annenberg Space for Photography in Century City, which is hosting an exhibit entitled: The Power of Photography: National Geographic 125 Years. This exhibit will be up until Sunday, April 27th, 2014, and is an absolute must-see.

Here is the Annenberg, which always has free admission:

The exhibit celebrates 125 years of National Geographic photography and has enough to see to keep you occupied almost all day. The docent said to me today that the exhibit is designed for 7 hours of viewing. We were only there for 2 and I could have easily stayed for at least another 3 hours. There were just so many fabulous photographs to see.

One of National Geographic’s goal is to use “the power of photography to explore, educate, inspire, document and preserve the world around us, ” and they do just that in this exhibition. Featuring six major photographers: Lynsey Addario, Marcus Bleasdale, David Guttenfelder, Abelardo Morell, Joel Sartore and Martin Schoeller, the curator of this show has arranged to put on display mosaics of over 400 images, as well as digitally displaying over 500 iconic photos on video walls throughout the gallery. In addition, the Annenberg sponsored an original documentary covering the six photographers listed above with each discussing his/her motivation for the photos they have taken, and how pursuing their art has affected their lives.

Here are just a few of the photos to be enjoyed and savored:

I highly recommend this exhibition to any and all who are touched by the wonderful photographs which are part of the publishing world of National Geographic. I think you will be stunned by the beauty of these photos and deeply affected by their content.

Take time to come see this show. Allot plenty of time so you don’t have to rush. You will be happy to be there for as long as it takes to see every photograph. This is an extraordinary opportunity to see for yourself a massive collection of stunning photographs that range from simply beautiful to deeply disturbing. All within the beautiful confines of the Annenberg Space for Photography.

Support this collaboration. Many people worked very hard to bring this to the people of the City of Los Angeles. That is a very special treat and one to be enjoyed.  Go, and also take your friends.  This photography is well worth the trip.
