We have had a long day today here in Texas – all good – visiting with family and friends from 9 am – midnight. No exaggeration. This is one of the best parts of being in Texas, seeing people we care about. There’s a sense of camaraderie among us that comes from knowing each other for a long time. There’s a comfort in long-standing relationships. A deep sense of connection.
I am dead tired now. No small talk here. We get down to sharing, hard and heavy, talking about what is and isn’t working in our lives. That is the kind of conversation that feeds me. I am not good at casual chit-chat.
A train whistle is blowing in the distance. The air is cool, but not cold. Besides that whistle, the night is quiet. It’s time for bed. Time to let all those conversations percolate in my mind, and then time to sleep.
