We are officially in the bedroom of our Spartan trailer. This is new since the bedroom has been a storeroom for the past several years. In the past we have pitched a tent when we’ve stayed overnight, but we concluded that the prospect of all that work was deterring us from sleeping here. It’s tough to arrive (sometimes late), then have to find the tent and set it up (sometimes in the dark). So, instead, we cleared out the bedroom, moved a foldout couch in, and, voila, a sittingroom by day and a sleeping chamber by night.
Ray and I (and the dogs) are cozily lying in our bed while candles (our only light source) burn on the trunk nearby. I am writing my blog on my phone while Ray cruises eBay on his. The night is extremely quiet and the temperature is heading to 40. However, we have so many covers, I don’t think we have much to worry about.
We saw three deer casually walking through the orange grove today. Ambling would be an accurate description. We are right on the edge of the national wilderness so it is not a surprise when we see rabbits, ground squirrels or coyotes. But deer…this was the first time for that. We have roosters, donkeys, geese, turkeys, and chickens nearby. We often have hee-haws, honking, gobbles, cockle doodle dos, and clucking nearby, but not now. The loudest sound is Ray’s breathing.
We are both starting to fall asleep. Well, it is 9:03…
On that note, I will say goodnight. Sweet dreams call.
