We just finished cleaning the kitchen after a fun and lively “Christmas” dinner with our family, two of our nieces and our Aunt Holly. We had the usual holiday fare – except chicken instead of turkey. We actually brought a turkey in an ice chest from LA, but it was so cold coming that it didn’t thaw. I guess we’ll be eating that bird later in the week…
Gregorio, Sarah’s boyfriend, decided we should add tamale making to our holiday meal so we made sweet pineapple and raisin tamales. It took the whole family to stuff and wrap the tamales. We had so much fun!
Our nieces and our beloved Holly arrived in time to see the table all set and us all bustling around for the last minute preparations. We were a good team, my three daughters, plus three of their friends, and the table was beautiful – with fresh flowers as a centerpiece – and the food was hot, plentiful and tasty.
The eleven of us sat around our big dining room table and ate and laughed, and laughed and ate all evening.
It was almost midnight before the party wrapped up. Then the girls all bustled around and cleaned the whole dining room and kitchen before heading to bed. What a crew!
I am tired, but happy. A lovely family dinner and a real celebration of love.
I am heading off to bed now, too.
Thank goodness for holidays to bring us all together. That’s the best part of the whole holiday “thing.” The time together.
I can go to bed feeling happy. That’s always a good way to head off to bed.
The best to all of you.
