Today, 11th grader Cameron Victor learned that she had won a Silver Key for short story writing for the Western region of the United States through the Scholastic Artists and Writers contest. The western region is comprised of California, Colorado, Hawaii, Montana, Oregon, Utah, Washington, and Wyoming. This contest is the oldest and most prestigious contest for youth (7 – 12th grade) in the United States and is also the most competitive.
Congratulations, Cameron.
Today, senior Marshall Reid also learned that he had received two honorable mentions in personal essay and short story for the Southwest region of the United States through the Scholastic Artists and Writers contest. The Southwest region is made up of Arizona, Arkansas, Louisiana, New Mexico, Oklahoma and Texas. Again, this contest is the most competitive contest in the United States.
Fine work, Marshall.
Finally, senior Talulah Brown learned yesterday that she has been accepted at Bennington College in Vermont, complete with a large scholarship. Her college essay was exceptional, and was one of several factors that won her admission to one of the nation’s finest “writing” colleges.
Hurrah, Talulah. (That’s her mom, too)
I am always pleased when my students receive the recognition they so well deserve for their hard work. I am very proud of these three students, who not only are wonderful writers, but also lovely people. This is just the beginning of their contributions to the literary world. They have many more stories to tell.
Hugs to all of you from your very proud writing teacher.
