We are returning from Disney Hall tonight after hearing the work of Bartok and two other Hungarian composers. We stopped at a light and a homeless man named “Wolf” approached the driver’s window. Ray gave him a litttle money to which Wolf said, “I need to get 20 dollars together. It would be better if you hit me one more time.” Ray said, “Sorry, that’s all I have right now.” Wolf assured Ray for a little more he would “beat up anybody Ray needed.” Ray laughed. “No, I won’t be needing your services for that tonight.” Wolf waved good bye as we drove away.
We saw at least 10 people sleeping on the streets near the music hall. Not surprising since many of the homeless congregate downtown. Who knows? We might run into Wolf soon at the homeless breakfast where we both volunteer.
Now we are making our way through relatively empty streets back to our part of town. We are listening to a violin concerto on the classical station being played by the same soloist we heard tonight, Midori, who is a virtuoso as well as a music professor at USC. Absolutely beautiful music!
This is one of the best parts of living in LA: the proximity to superlative classical music. We are fortunate indeed.
Tomorrow we head to Mexico to meet Sarah’s inlaws. We will be in Ensenada in Baja and the weather is supposed to be beautiful. I am looking forward to this trip. We will get a chance to relax.
I may or may not blog while there. It depends on whether we have an internet connection. No word means we don’t have one. If we don’t, I will resume blogging on Tuesday. If we do. then I will write my 20 minutes a day again tomorrow.
Either way, happy trails. I hope you are having a little fun in your life. If you are, please share!
