Flash Essay: Ojai, Perfect Weather & Lots of Stars

image

We have been in Ojai since last night, making good on our plan to come up 2 days a week and organize our storage bins. Right now we’re down in Ventura so we could go to a Del Taco and then to a local health food store for dessert since we don’t eat refined sugar. Ventura is 12 miles from Ojai so we’re heading back up now. Today has been one of those work days you dream of. The temperature was 75 degrees all day with a cool ocean breeze blowing. The unloading, sorting and reloading all went faster than we expected, allowing time for us to add more shelves in one of the bins. This doesn’t sound too exciting, I realize, but when your goal is to get organized, putting up lots of shelves is like Cinderella going to the ball. Plus, this afternoon, we turned our attention to our 1954 “Sparten Manor,” which needs some hardcore TLC. We cleaned, stapled tin in several places to discourage visiting field mice, and organized the backrom. I even painted the shelves in the bathroom. This was about three times the amount of work we expected to finish, so we’re completely jazzed. One of these days we might get everything in its place. What a pleasure that would be! So now we will get back to the orange grove, brush teeth, gathered up Cordelia and Sammy and head to the tent for bed. That is my favorite part of being in Ojai: sleeping outside in a tent. You have never seen so many stars. So, let’s hear it for one productive and happy day. Hip hip hooray!
