I am sitting in our Victorian in Texas, recovering from the combination of humidity, heat and excessive walking we have done today. We are still putting the finishing touches on the house across the street before it goes on the market – literally tomorrow – plus we have been preparing for a new renter who arrived this evening for our apartment upstairs, so all day it was up, down; across, back; repeat.
The temperature ranged from 75 degrees this morning to 93 at the heat of the day, along with 67% humidity. For hours, the skies were cloudy and gray and it looked (and felt) as if the rain would surely come down any minute – that wet blanket feeling – but then a big wind came up and blew hard, blowing over a few trash cans since tomorrow is trash day in the neighborhood. After that great display of force from afar, accompanied by the hope that maybe rain was actually going to fall, the skies cleared and that was the end of that. Tomorrow is virtually the same forecast with the only bright spot being 57% humidity instead of 67%.
For those of us who live most of the year in a place where the temperature hovers right at 73 and the humidity is much lower, this is somewhat of change…
On that note, I am headed to bed. I realize it’s not very late, but it takes a while to adjust to climate change. I think adjusting will be accomplished much faster under a few soft blankets and a pillow or two. Oh, and in air conditioning.
