Heading Back to CA

image

We are 65 miles east of Amarillo heading west.  We stopped in Childress at JT’s Drive-In for an excellent fried catfish dinner while we sat outside at a table with our dogs.  We arrived exactly at 7:30 and they had just put out the closed sign.  I asked if we could still order and she said, “You’re here before we locked the door, so, of course, we’ll serve you.”  Very nice people all round.  Several of the women working there came out to see Cordelia and Sammie and to tell us how pretty they were.  Not to mention the catfish was exceptionally light and crispy.

Our goal is Amarillo tonight.  Not too far now.  Tomorrow morning, we will visit one of my favorite family-owned health food stores in the country, Eat Rite.  This store has been there for years now and has a great inventory plus wonderful homemade baked goods.  The people working there are all extremely nice and they look exceptionally healthy.  I guess they are living proof that a proper diet can truly enhance your health.

The moon is bright and the road is surprisingly uncrowded given that it is a holiday weekend.  Of course, we aren’t near any recreational areas so maybe that isn’t a great surprise.

Our time at our home in Texas was fruitful.  The little guest house we are renovating on our property is going to be adorable, complete with a stained glass front door and a similiar bathroom door, a complete kitchen and a loft.  Everyone who walked in to see it had the same response: “I want to live here.”  I feel the same way.  A perfect little hide-away.  Pictures will come when we return in a month.

Tomorrow our goal is Flagstaff.  That shouldn’t be too tough.  I’ll check in as we drive and let you know how we’re doing.

Happy holiday weekend.
