Instead, it’s visually beautiful as well as emotionally satisfying as the questions of life and death, belief and unbelief, and God or no God are seriously examined amid action, tension and humor.
My husband, who had to be dragged to this movie, came out loving it and said that he appreciated the complexity of the answers provided by the film’s end. No one size fits all answer, but rather a sincere effort to ask difficult questions and to listen attentively for not just one answer.
I had read the book before seeing the film and was happy to see that the filmmaker stuck very close to the book’s version of events. The beauty of the setting was aptly portrayed, and the main character was beautifully played by an unknown Indian actor, who was cast after his brother came to audition for the role.
All in all, a fine movie and one I would recommend. Not everyone will like it, but many will. I suggest you give it a try; I suspect you’ll find it a satisfying experience at the movies.
