Ray and I are safely settled in our Texas home after two and a quarter days on the road. The trip was uneventful, as we like it, but there were a few times that it felt a bit long. Nothing like sitting on your rear-end for 11 hours for two days and three hours on that first day. Alas, we saw the beautiful scenery of Northern Arizona and New Mexico, and didn’t have any unexpected delays from road work. That is a very good thing!
We listened to lots of news, heard a lot about Hurrican Harvey, listen to several TED talks, along with NPR’s “Wait, Wait, Don’t Tell Me” radio show, a bit of Click and Clack (we tuned in at the end of the show) and “Ask Me Another,” a show about puzzles, word games and trivia. Former U.S. Poet Laureate Rita Dove was on that radio show and she was a real treat. Here is a link to her reading a short poem a couple of years ago.
We are happy to be here, and are glad to have arrived safely. We have already had dinner with our friends Darrah Dunn and Shann Schubert and had the extra bonus of seeing Todd and Laura Hickey McMeley. We’re off to a great start!
Thoughts and prayers continue to go out for those on the Gulf coast with all the rain from now Tropical Storm Harvey.
Looking forward to seeing good friends while here and eating some good fried catfish, Tex-Mex, and Texas BBQ.
I’ll be checking back in with you tomorrow.
