Morning with Luna

Today I had the opportunity to spend the morning with my granddaughter, Luna. Her dad was off at work supervising the excavation of some ancient bones they’ve discovered on a work site and her mom was starting her second to the last month-long rotation before her graduation from medical school on May 16. Hooray.  Aunt Liz and Uncle Ron were both at their new jobs, Aunt Rachael was at her job in Texas and Grandpa was supervising the final cleanup of our renovation project in Sherman.

I arrived at 7:15 to find a very sleepy little girl still in her pink pj’s. She usually sleeps until 9 so this was a little too early for Miss Luna. We kissed Mommy and she headed off to meet her supervising physician. Luna and I ate breakfast and snuggled, but it was soon apparent that this girl needed at least another solid hour of shut-eye.  With the aid of the Mommy-backpack (meaning one that allows you to carry the baby against you), Luna was soon resting comfortably, thumb securely inserted mouth.  One long nap later, we were both ready for a trip to the park.

Below are a few pictures we took while at the park:

Somebody had a lot of fun.

We even stopped at a bookstore on the way home.  That made Grandma very happy, too.

I kept thinking while I was pushing Luna hither and yon: These are special days.  Embrace them.  Savor them.  They will pass before you know it.

I know this is a simple truth of life.
