Off I went today for my visit to Kaiser Permanente, which is my first foray into a HMO prompted by my $1200 monthly bills for Ray and me for a PPO offered by Blue Shield of CA with a $12,000 deductible. (Yes, you read that right.) Kaiser offered the same coverage for 1/2 the price and a $4000 deductible. Hmmm…
So here’s the doctor’s office where I was having my first meeting with my new Ob/Gyn, a young woman who spent over an hour of unrushed time with me asking all about my prior health history. (Oh, and there was a nurse in the waiting room waiting to give me a free flu shot.)
So after leaving the doctor’s office and zipping over to a walk-in mammogram clinic, I was greeted by a woman who declared this “my lucky day” since there was one last slot available. I was delighted and indeed felt as if it was extremely lucky since it saved me a return trip that involved a 45 minute drive. So, hurrah.
Then I headed over to the parking garage to retrieve my car and head home. This is where the problems began, not with Kaiser, but rather with my car, which would start, but then would die when I put it in gear.
Here is a picture of my car, which liked Kaiser so much that it decided to live there permanently.
Here is the lovely view from the 8th floor of the parking garage where I waited for AAA and my husband, Ray, to arrive in different vehicles.
And another:
Here is the tow truck depositing the car at Legit Automotive, a name that under other circumstances I would feel suspicious about, but certainly not after the tow truck driver told me that Legit was top-notch. Ah, sweet relief.
Here is a photo of the car safely deposited at Legit.
Now I have had my flu shot and a Tdap vaccine to prevent Tetanus, Diphtheria, and Pertussis, as well as a medical check-up and my mammogram. All with smiling people who seemed to like their jobs and wanted me to have a good experience at their clinic. Wow. And I thought my quality of care might go down.
Alas, you know the money I’m saving on health insurance? Well, I’m thinking that a couple of months of that savings may be required to pay for whatever the problem is with the engine. At least I hope it’s only a couple of months of that savings.
On that note, I think I’ll go to bed. That was plenty of excitement for one day, thank you very much.
