New Comforts at the Orange Grove

The room is very quiet. Ray is already in bed, probably asleep, though I hear the television on upstairs. It is a faint, but I can hear voices and know that at this hour Ray is not on the phone. Cordelia is curled up in a nearby chair, asleep. She occasionally opens her eyes and looks plaintively at me, as if to say, “Can we go upstairs now?” Sammie is asleep on the rug near my feet.

We spent the day in Ojai at the orange grove. We are excited about our progress up there: we have two recent additions, a roofless shower house and an official bathroom, complete with flush toilet in its own little tin building. These creature comforts make being at the orange grove even more pleasant than it already was. There is nothing like knowing a bathroom is near – very private and very modern – and also, knowing a hot shower can be taken in another little building all its own with a view of the open sky – well – that is pretty much heaven.

So, I can go to bed now feeling satisfied. Life is good at the orange grove.

On that note, I’ll conclude. That about says it all.
