Ojai and the Orange Grove Today

image

We are heading back to LA from Ojai.  It is 7:25 pm and the traffic is moving at a good clip.  We’re about an hour from home.

The trees at the orange grove have oranges that are still ripening on the branches right alongside white blossoms, many of which are just about to bloom.  There is the faint scent of orange blossoms in the air, one of the lovliest fragrances on this earth.  When all the blossoms are in full bloom, the air is sweet and intoxicating.

We took the dogs with us and they, of course, were happy as they could be.  Cordie and Sammie trotted around the land, spotting lizards and rabbits and wanting very much to be off their leashes, which I would greatly prefer except for one small detail: coyotes.  We have seen these critters even during the day on the land, so we can’t let our dogs run free.  Cordie might hold her own, but Sammie would be a perfect morsel.  And if there was more than one coyote, then even Cordie, little gal that she is, wouldn’t make it.  Still, the dogs love the orange grove even with  leashes and Ray and I walk the grove so they get plenty of exercise.

We are now exiting onto Sunset Boulevard so I will close.  Sunset has lots of twists and curves and it will be a little tough to type.  What a lovely day we’ve had today.  We and the dogs are tired, but happy.  Life is good.
