Yesterday, I went out and bought plants for our fall garden. Here were the offerings at Anawalt Lumber in West Hollywood:
These are the plants I picked, which include cilantro, two types of parsley, basil, two types of kale, Romaine lettuce, and red onions. (I could be forgetting a plant or two…)
Here is the postage-stamp garden plot we have in our back yard, ready with new soil:
Here is that same plot with the new plantings:
A little overflow went into pots:
We are hopeful we’ll have lots of fresh produce in the next 45 days or so. We can already use the parsley, of course.
Rain would help, but, we may not have much of that. We will need to stay on top of the watering.
I have had some luck in the past with this plot, but not nearly as much as I would have liked. With the new soil, I have my fingers crossed.
There is nothing better than vegetables and herbs fresh from the garden. We also have a few lemon, avocado, lime and orange trees around. In addition, we have pots of rosemary, lemongrass, thyme, and spearmint.
Hopefully, our Thanksgiving table will be filled with these vegetables. That would be a treat.
Here’s hoping…
