Transparency is defined as “the condition of being transparent,” which means being able to see through something or someone. Many spiritual leaders say that transparency is part of being enlightened. What you see is what is there, no more, no less. The government speaks of transparency in governing, meaning no secrets, and yet knowing that governments are made up of people with needs to control or be controlled, it’s hard to imagine there will be no secrets. Transparency is also a term used in fashion, the transparent fabric that gives the hint of something beautiful, but doesn’t make a show of itself. Revealing something presumably pretty underneath, not ugly.
No, people are not as interested in the transparent details of ugliness. They love to hear the good and the happy and the positive, but have a victim describe in transparent detail the brutal details of a rape and the public’s collective face will go pale and they will turn away. Transparent glass means being able to see through it to the other side. A side where there is green and growth and the sun and a bird sings in the distance. One might wonder if humans truly want transparency in everything. If we did, then we would have to leave behind all that color and thick fabric so our nakedness could be seen in full light.
