“You have to dish,” Sylvia said to her friend Joyce right after they sat down in the restaurant for lunch. “Come on. Tell me what happened!”
Joyce crossed her legs slowly and licked her lips. “You are not going to believe what a hunk he was. Honestly, I thought I might faint when he took his clothes off. He had these six-pack abs and his skin, oh my God, his skin felt just like velvet.”
Sylvia drummed her manicured fingers. “And?”
Joyce smiled. “Talk about a slow hand!”
Sylvia found herself annoyed with this distinct lack of detail. “So, was this right after dinner or what?”
“No, it was right when he picked me up.”
“You mean at your apartment?”
Joyce nodded. “I mean, we both knew why we were meeting. All that online stuff cuts through the bullshit, after all.”
“Are you saying you didn’t even go to dinner?”
“I know you think it’s better for a guy to spend money before dessert, but this was different. We’d been talking online for at least two weeks, remember? I think we both thought we might die if we didn’t get right down to business.”
“Down to business? Is that what we’re calling that these days? You sound as if you’re talking about creating a production line or something.”
“Honey, this was a production line. Up this side, down the other. I thought I might not walk for a week.”
“So, he was good?”
“He was better than good. Of course, as my mother always says, ‘Hunger’s the best cook.’”
Sylvia frowned. “Your mother? Is this the right conversation to be bringing up your mother?”
“My mother is a free spirit. She wouldn’t care if I tossed her name in here.”
“Excuse me, I know your mother and the thought of her spread-eagle in bed with your dad makes me want to puke.”
Joyce laughed. “That’s just because you need to get laid yourself. Then you wouldn’t be so uptight.”
Sylvia pulled out her phone. “Look at this guy. I was thinking of meeting him for a drink.”
“Not bad. Is he from the dating site?”
“Yeah. He says he’s an engineer and he’s looking for someone who will bring some zing back into his life.”
Sylvia frowned. “Run the other direction. That’s all I can say.”
“But he’s cute, don’t you think? I don’t have to marry the guy. Maybe a night like you had is enough.”
Joyce sighed. “Don’t do it.”
“But you said he was hot…the sex was great…you had so much fun!”
“Yes, well, he forgot to mention until we were done that he and his wife were considering a reconciliation.
“Oh.”
“Yeah, oh. So, now what’s on this menu to eat? I’m starving.”
