Quick Write from Yesterday: Trip to Arboretum

I am sitting with Jonah. We are doing our quick write. It is a bright sunny March day with a slight breeze that is causing the Nandina bushes outside my living room window to jostle to and fro. Cordelia is currently licking the wooden floor, which has recently been mopped with Murphy’s Soap. I may have to switch brands. She seems to love the taste. I have just tapped her and told her to stop. She is now up trying to get pets from Jonah who seems to be having some trouble doing his quick write today. Some days are like that. You’d rather be anywhere else than where you are, particularly when it’s so pretty outside. Maybe we could do something fun today like play some sort of game. I will talk to Jonah about this. That might perk him up a bit.

What else? Today is my husband Ray’s birthday. He is 56-years-old today. We have been out with our daughter Sarah and granddaughter, Luna, at the LA County Arboretum in Arcadia. We arrived there around 11 this morning and stayed until 2. There are lots of exotic plants and trees to see in the areas they have designated at “Australia” and “Africa,” plus lots of California plants, such as cacti. Also, they have a wonderful Victorian house there that is completely restored, which was the house of a man named Lucky Baldwin, who was a land developer back at the turn of the 20th century. My favorite part of the house was a wrap-around porch where there were lots of groupings of seats, and the back area of the porch looked out on a big pond where ducks were floating on the water. I could live in that house any day just for the porch.

Ray is still out in Pasadena with Sarah. Liz is going there after work and taking her dad on a birthday “date” since I have students from 4 – 9 and Ron is also working late. I expect Liz and Ray will have lots of fun together. He was clearly having fun with Sarah and Luna at the Arboretum. Ray also heard from Rachael who is still in Texas. The good news is that she will be coming home for Luna’s birthday, which is in 2 weeks. Hooray!
