Ray’s Long Trip Back to LA

Ray just returned from a week in Texas. He is sitting across the living room from me, yawning, having just gotten up from a nap. He got up at 3:45 am (Central Time) to make a plane at Love Field at 6:30 am. Rachael very graciously agreed to get up, too, and drive him to the airport. Sherman is 60 miles from Dallas so all plane trips involve that driving component, which is a little tough when you’re leaving early. He flew to Albuquerque where half of the oxygen masks on the Southwest plane fell down upon landing. This plane was continuing on to LA. He was delayed there for almost 2 hours while the airport maintenance crew (not Southwest’s crew) tried to repair the problem, which they finally did. But, after that, apparently there were 22 pages of paperwork that had to be filled out and faxed before the flight could continue. The airline apparently told the passengers several times that this was not their rules, but the airport mechanics’ rules. Ray finally arrived at LAX at 10 am (Pacific Time), which is noon (Central Time.) Alas, that was one LONG process to get from there to here.

Luna and Sarah stayed and visited with Grandpa before heading back to Pasadena. Gregorio will return today from working on an archaeological dig in Oceanside since Wednesday. I was a little sad to see my girls leave, but certainly understood that it was time to get back home. What a treat to have them for part of this week!

So, now Ray is back, the dogs are happy, and life will return to “normal,” whatever that means in this particular household with our many projects we juggle in two states.

Alas, we are planning to have a relaxed evening. I’m looking forward to that. I am also grateful Ray is home, safe and sound.
