Congratulations to my writing students, who have won awards in the Scholastic Artists and Writers contest, the oldest, most prestigious, and most competitive writing contest for youth in the United States with over 230,000 entries in the regional competitions.
I am proud to announce that Madison Stringray has won a gold medal for her short story, “Before She Was Queen” in the California division of the contest, as well as two Honorable Mentions for her personal essay, “Baba,” and her flash fiction story, “Running from Fears.” Cameron Victor received an Honorable Mention for her science fiction story, “Sweet Death;” Adrianna Dinolfo earned an Honorable Mention for her personal essay, “A Chance to Grow;” and Harrison Brunelli received an honorable mention for his short story, “Hunger.”
The competition is stiff for these awards – particularly here in California – and you all need to feel exceedingly proud of this recognition of your writing talent. I am certainly proud of you.
Thank you for your hard work and determination. Your essays and stories are exceptional and I am delighted that Scholastic recognized their merit.
Congratulations, again. I hope this is just the beginning of a lifetime of writing – and recognition – for you all!
