I am very pleased to announce that my writing student Lara King has received notification that she has won a Gold Key for her personal essay/memoir, “Ship of Theseus” in the Scholastic Artists and Writers contest, the oldest and most prestigious writing contest for youth in the United States. Lara is a long-distance student of mine since she lives in Michigan. She won in the Mid-Western division and will be honored along with other award recipients from 7 states at the Belin-Blank Center at the University of Iowa on March 10th.
Lara’s Gold Key award qualifies her essay to go on to the national competition. National Gold Key winners are honored at Carnegie Hall in June.
Congratulations, Lara! Your hard work has paid off.
