I’m sitting here with our guests – or at least the ones who are still awake – Liz; boyfriend, Ron; Ron’s friend, Kevin; my niece-in-law, Karri; and Ray. A Food Network show is on television and we’re all sitting around telling jokes – mostly off-color – and laughing.
Our Thanksgiving dinner was a resounding success. The turkey was juicy after an overnight brining, the dressing was moist (thank you, Paula Dean), the gravy was rich (thank you, Barefoot Contessa), the mashed potatoes with cream cheese were to die for, not to mention the yams, Brussel sprouts, salad, fresh bread (thank you, Sarah) and the macaroni and cheese (thank you Rachael and Tobe!). Then we had those desserts: blueberry cream pie, banana cream pie, pumpkin pie, and homemade baklava (thank you Karri; Eli and Sophie, my great-niece and nephew; and me).
The table was beautiful – thank you, Ray – and the conversation was lively. Thank you Judy, Ian, John, Jan and all of my family.
Clean up was done by 6 – thanks to nephew Jim and daughter Liz, plus brother-in-law, E-Ray. All the trash was out in the dumpster in the ally and all the extra tables and chairs were stowed away – thanks, Gregorio. Now even the table cloths and napkins have already been washed, folded and put away and everything is back in order. Wow.
Tomorrow we pick up my niece from LAX at 11 and off we go to the Getty. It is supposed to be 78 degrees tomorrow so the view should be fabulous.
But now, I think I’ll just sit back and enjoy our guests. Then on to bed. It’s been a fine day.
