Tonight and Today

I am sitting in a very quiet house with William, the cat. Rachael, who is now living in Texas, has her friend, Natasha, from LA visiting her there. Ron and Liz are off on their cross-country trek; Sarah, Gregorio and Luna are snug in their beds in Pasadena; and Ray and our dogs, Cordelia and Sammie, are, no doubt, snug in their bed in Texas. William and I are holding down the home front here. We are listening to Alison Krause, and also noting that the traffic outside has calmed down considerably.

Today we have the government shutdown as our Congress demonstrates just how partisan they have become. Meanwhile, people are calling or checking on the Internet to see how much money they can save with the Affordable Health Care Act. And then there is the group of older veterans in Washington who arrived to visit the World War II War Memorial and were turned away. Somehow they found a way to visit that memorial whether officials liked it or not. Go, gentlemen!

William and I are going to retire now. We have a warm bed awaiting.

I hope the government gets its act together.

It is time.
